Admission Criteria:
The following criteria must be met in order to be considered for admission to the Serenity Mesa facility:
- Potential residents must be sober off all drugs and alcohol for at least 3 to 5 days is preferred.
- Serenity Mesa does not accept residents who have violent backgrounds or any sexual offenses, and we reserve the right to deny admission if the candidate does not meet our admission criteria.
- We work with probation officers (adult and juvenile), judicial systems, drug courts, and juvenile detention centers; however, the resident must want to be at SM and not there just because they want to avoid jail. Treatment is only effective if the individual is ready for treatment. We have a limited number of beds and we reserve them for residents who are ready to start their recovery journey.
Expectations and Responsibilities:
Residents are expected to be respectful of themselves, other residents, and staff. Serenity Mesa residents are required to perform chores as part of the SMRC program for three important reasons.
- Doing chores builds character, teaches responsibility and allows one to take pride in the community.
- SMRC is a small nonprofit organization that operates on a shoestring budget with minimal staff. It takes a team of many to maintain the quality and standards that make SMRC what it is.
- We want SMRC to be our resident’s home. We want it to feel like home, look like home, and be a warm, welcome place for our residents, their families, our staff, and our visitors.
We have 5 different levels at SMRC. Most levels are based on length of stay so level is 1 is 1-30 days, level 2 is 30-45 days, level 3 is 45-60 days, etc. Each level opens opportunities for additional privileges. Our residents are allowed to stay up to six months as long as they are continuing to progress and benefit from the program.
Individual and Group Therapy
All of our residents are required to participate in Intensive Outpatient Therapy that is held onsite three days a week. We also meet with each resident on an individual level at least once a week. We hold family sessions as well whenever the resident and their family is open to it.
School and Education
All of our residents who do not have their high school education will be enrolled in RFK Charter School. We have classes onsite Mon-Thursday from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Residents who have already graduated high school have the opportunity to attend college or take culinary arts classes.
Life Skills
Residents work on improving life skills that they may need help with such as budgeting their money, cooking, shopping, time management, etc. We have group life skills sessions at least twice a week and we also work one on one with our residents to identify areas they need to work on or need additional skills/training in.
Health and Wellness
Health and wellness is an important part of Serenity Mesa’s programming. We have an onsite gym and we also take our residents offsite two to three times per week to work out at a local gym.
